The 2008 Green Builder® Orlando Vision House is situated on Lake Apopka, just outside of Orlando. The views looking north from the lot are stunning. From the lake, you can see how the shoreline has been overtaken with invasive plant species. From its beginning, the Architect planned to minimize the impact of the house on natural resources. For example, protecting the lake from non-source pollution is one of many priorities of the project.
Water conservation is crucial in Florida as its exploding population continues to place more and more pressure on the aquifer. See how the house uses water efficiently by using cisterns to collect storm water run-off and super efficient Kohler fixtures within the home. The landscaping utilizes native, drought resistant species to minimize the need for irrigation.
Of course, no home would be considered green without an energy efficient home. The architect’s design incorporates features that take advantage of the local climate. The Fischer SIPS wall system, Lennox HVAC systems, Spray Foam insulation, high performance Windoor Patio doors and BetterBilt windows form a system that truly provides an efficient shell. The house utilizes engineered wood products from Huber for the roof system and the floor decking. The interior of the house is framed with engineered wood studs and trusses
Creating a healthy indoor environment involves more than just the whole house air filtration system. The interior design, by EcoDecor, takes into consideration of off-gassing of finishes, furniture and materials used.
